DeLanna Studi's Oklahoma Cherokee heritage brings authenticity to her narration of this biography of engineer Mary Golda Ross. Born in Oklahoma in 1908, Ross drew from her Cherokee values and her talent in math to become the first female engineer at Lockheed Aircraft Company, where she worked on top-secret projects. Music provides an inspiring backdrop to Mary's education and accomplishments, which include her refusal to be intimidated in a male-dominated field and her inspiring mentorship of other young women. Sorell reads her author's note, which adds personal context to the story. Studi's narration of the "Four Cherokee Values" both in the Cherokee language and in English is a fitting way to close the audiobook, as it reinforces the importance of Ross's culture to her success.
