Barron voices Lala, who faces suspicion due to her Romani heritage as women dance themselves to death in the summer of 1518. Guerra voices Rosella, a modern-day Latina teen who repaired her grandfather's treasured red shoes and now suffers from the same dancing sickness. Adam voices Emil, Lala's present-day descendant, who has avoided learning about his heritage to better fit in but who may be Rosella's only hope. The audiobook's frequent point-of-view shifts benefit from multiple narrators, who ease the transitions from chapter to chapter.
